ANNOUNCEMENT Feb 6, 2023:
Trail Closure at Gummere Wood Trailhead
Until MSF Landscapes completes the paid work to
install a wheelchair accessible and water pervious surface at the trailhead, the first section of the
Lakeside trail between the bottom of Wheeler Rd and the first intersection with the Aquene trail is
closed to the public until further notice. The MA state Architectural Access Board has determined that
the hiking trail must comply with MA 521 CMR for building access ramps at a "roadside rest stop".

The GLT board has been working to bring the trail into compliance, obtaining local survey and engineering services,
applying for a wetlands permit for the no-disturb riverfront area, as well as paying MSF Landscaping an initial
amount of nearly $5000 on 10/24/2022 to buy materials and start the work. GLT was granted a variance until
11/30/2022 by the AAB to allow sufficient time for completion. This date has come and gone and MSF Landscaping
has not started the construction process. As GLT is faced with the prospect of being sued for injury or even
fined by the AAB for continued non-compliance, to ensure safety as well as to protect the land
trust from extreme financial exposure, the GLT board voted to close the trail until the work is complete.
Updates will be posted here and on Facebook.
